Abstract
We report a case of a sub-talar cyst, closely associated with the talo-calcaneal ligament in a patient with long-standing foot and ankle symptoms. Symptomatic intra-articular ganglion cysts have not to our knowledge been previously described in this location. The cyst was successfully aspirated under CT guidance. Intra- articular ganglion cysts have been reported as a cause of pain in the knee and shoulder. [Arthroscopy15 (1999) 85; Arthroscopy15 (1999) 373; Eur. Radiol. 10 (2000) 1233; Eur. Radiol. 11 (2001) 834; Dtsch Z. Chir. 186 (1924) 403; Skeletal Radiol. 30 (2001) 411; J. Bone Joint Surg. 84-A (2002) 2274] Magnetic resonance imaging has increased the detection of such lesions, allowing less invasive methods of treatment. Cysts have been treated by open or arthroscopic surgical decompression and by percutaneous aspiration of the ganglion, directed either by computed tomography [Am. J. Roentgenol. 162 (1994) 1503] or by sonography [Skeletal Radiol. 30 (2001) 411].
