Abstract

IN mammalian cell cultures alkaline phosphatase is regulated by both inductive and repressive mechanisms1. In preparation for further investigations of the mechanisms of alkaline phosphatase control, the sub-cellular localization of this enzyme was re-investigated, using newer techniques2,3. Previous investigations, using the kidney and intestine of several different mammalian species, have shown that the highest alkaline phosphatase activity resides on the microsomes4-6.
