Abstract

Psychological well-being is a phenomenon widely investigated in the field of positive psychology. In everyday life it manifests in a number of ways and may be labelled as satisfaction with life, as satisfaction with certain areas of life (e.g., satisfaction with family relationships, interpersonal relationships, financial status etc.), as satisfaction with oneself as a person, as a feeling of purposefulness, meaningfulness or happiness in life. This article presents a study carried out in a Lithuanian adult sample (N = 528). The Lithuanian Psychological Well-Being scale (LPGS) was used to collect the data. The goal of the study was to examine the link between psychological well-being and various socio-demographic variables (age, gender, marital status, place of residence etc.). According to regression analysis results, subjective evaluation of one’s financial status is the strongest socio-demographic predictor of psychological well-being, followed by marital status and religiousness. Nevertheless, the results have shown that socio-demographic variables have a rather low predictive value in predicting psychological well-being. KEY WORDS: psychological well-being, Lithuanian psychological well-being scale (LPGS), socio-demographic factors.
