Abstract

was lost to follow up. The mean follow up on the remaining 19 patients was 272 days (range 12-1098). No post-procedural complications were noted. Symptoms were noted to resolve or improve in 17/19 cases. Eight (8/19) patients died during follow up, none from biliary complications. Eleven patients were alive at the time of follow up. Six patients still had their gallbladder stent in place, three patients went on to have cholecystectomy and two had gallbladder stent removed due to persistent symptoms. The mean follow up time for the six patients with stents still in place is 574.5 days (range 320-1098 days); none of these patients required a stent exchange. Conclusions: Our experience in patients without cirrhosis demonstrates that transpapillary gallbladder stenting has an excellent safety profile. Rendezvous with a percutaneous transcholecystic wire can facilitate technical success. The majority of patients received prolonged symptomatic improvement.
