Abstract

Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) placement is a therapeutic modality for patients with end-stage congestive heart failure. Recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) is a well-reported complication following LVAD implantation often requiring multiple endoscopic procedures. An identifiable source of bleeding is not always found after EGD or colonoscopy. Video capsule endoscopy (VCE) can be utilized in this subset of patients to further evaluate the small bowel for a bleeding source and thereby guide endoscopic treatment; however, limited data exists evaluating the outcomes of VCE in the LVAD population. To our knowledge, this is the largest single-center study reporting the outcomes and safety of VCE in LVAD patients.
