Abstract

Endoscopic treatment of gastric variceal (GV) bleeding has traditionally been premised on cyanoacrylate injection, and more recently EUS-guided coil injection. Alternatively there are interventional radiology (IR) based therapies, such as transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) or balloon retrograde transvenous occlusion (BRTO). Cost data on endoscopic and IR methods for GV treatment are limited. We performed a cost utility analysis of procedural and hospitalization costs among patients with GV treated with EUS-guided coil therapy (E-COIL), endoscopic CYA injection (E-CYA) and IR-guided therapies.
