Abstract

The smallness of the up-, down-, and strange-quark masses compared with the QCD scale makes SU(3) flavor an approximate symmetry of the strong interactions. The B-, B0, and Bs0 mesons form a 3¯ representation of SU(3). Using the SU(3) transformation properties of the effective Hamiltonian for weak nonleptonic B-meson decays, relations are derived between B-meson decay amplitudes. Some of these relations may provide information on the importance of various competing effects that can occur in nonleptonic B-meson decays.
