Abstract

Abstract Styrene has been assessed as a Priority Substance under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act. Based on available data, styrene has been classified as “possibly carcinogenic to humans”, and tolerable daily intakes/concentrations developed based on relevant studies in animals. The estimated average total daily intake of styrene by the Canadian general population is more than 50 times less than the TDI/TDC for neurotoxic effects following inhalation, or for foetotoxic effects following long‐term exposure to styrene by the oral route.
