Abstract

There are more guides to good writing, and this includes guides to medical and scientific writing, than one would care to count. Any editor might tell you though that the rules, regulations, suggestions, and examples, indeed, the whole code for improving writing is "more honored in the breach than observance." To obtain some degree of protection against the fearful writing which some who are only putative scientists feel they must perpetrate, editors have devised manuals which give simple but explicit directions for such things as punctuation and capitalization.
