Abstract

We consider the impact of quantization noise due to analog-to-digital conversion (ADC) on characteristics of the wireless communication systems with single carrier modulation and frequency domain equalization (SCFDE) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) of multiple subcarriers. It is shown that in the channels without temporal dispersion, the minimum ADC resolution for the SCFDE system can be from 1 to 2 bits lower than for the OFDM system. However, for the channels with strong frequency selectivity, which are the most common for wireless communication systems, the required minimum ADC resolution is the same for the SCFDE and OFDM systems.
