Abstract

The ethanol distillery waste (stillage) of the Binh Tay company was used for the growth of useful microorganisms, such as, Bacillus sp., Lactobacillus sp. and Saccharomyces sp., to produce BIO-HR product. The BIO-HR product obtained after 3 days of fermentation at room temperature contained cell density of Bacillus sp. ≥ 107 CFU/ml, Lactobacillus sp. ≥ 107 CFU/ml, Saccharomyces sp. ≥ 106 CFU/ml, pH 4-5 without Coliforms. Effects of the Bio-HR on Luong Phuong chicken showed that if chickens drink a solution of 2.5 g Bio-HR/litre of tap water for 8 weeks, the average weight (kg/head) was 30% higher than the control plot and Feed Consumption Rate (FCR) was reduced by 16% compared to the control plot. Therefore, instead of entire waste water treatment, the ethanol producers can reuse stillage to produce a bio-product of high quality for livestock, reducing the cost of waste water treatment, and thus creating more jobs for workers and achieving more profit.
