Abstract

In the present work, the structure, dielectric and magnetic properties of Gd2NiMnO6 double perovskite have been studied. X-Ray diffraction study reveals the phase pure formation of the material that crystallizes into monoclinic phase (space group ’P21/n’). Surface morphology depicts heterogeneous grain distribution with average grain size of ~1 µm. Temperature dependent (50 – 330 K) dielectric measurements at different frequencies (0.5 - 50 kHz) relate to Maxwell-Wagner interfacial polarization model. Giant dielectric constant at 1 kHz for 300 K (e’ ~1900) is noticed as compared to that of 50 K (e’ ~10) coupled with a peak shift in tan loss towards higher temperature with frequency. The activation energy (0.24 eV) obtained using Arrhenius relation for thermally activated relaxor behavior of the material signifies an electron hopping mechanism between Ni2+ and Mn4+ cations. Lastly, M-H study shows ‘S’ shape hysteresis loop at 50 K with remnant magnetization (Mr) of 0.72 µB/f.u. along with a linear plot for...
