Abstract

Today, Internet and other electronic networks have been used in expansion of scientific collaborations, so as popularity of the electronic scientific databases (ESDs) such as ScienceDirect, ISI Web of Knowledge and Scopus is an inevitable evidence for this claim. The ESDs provide researchers various web services comprised of several types such as scientific communications, collaborations and content publishing. Dependent on the ESDs and their web services, the scholars' research process is evolved accordingly, so as the electronic research (e-Research) process got into birth in which, exploiting the information technologies in the ESDs, scholars initiate their research, drive it, and reach its determined goals. In this paper, after proposing a framework for the e-Research process, the taxonomy of web services in the ESDs is investigated and then, main ESDs are classified based on some primal features in the proposed taxonomy.
