Abstract
Cooperative learning, as a creative and effective learning strategy, has been prevailing in schools (primary and secondary) since 1980s in China, however it's somehow not so popular with teachers and students in colleges for some reasons. This paper, based theoretically on social psychology and second languange acquisition theory, discusses the importance of cooperative learning in students' language acquisition and knowledge construction. Furthermore the paper aims at how to carry out the teaching strategy of cooperative learning in web-based teaching environment, namely, with the support of modern web-based teaching environment, students' cooperative learning capacity and overall competence can be better improved and the problems of interaction in large English classes can be solved.
