Abstract

The driver's face orientation monitoring is an important component of driving assistant of vehicle safety, and it is one of the effective measures for preventing serious traffic accidents. In a large number of research methods, the method based on vision has been a leading technique due to its hardware's characteristics of small size, low cost and non-intrusiveness to drivers. This paper presents a real time system which can alert drivers when they feel drowsy or lose alertness based on the eyes, mouth detection and face orientation monitoring. Test results show that the system can monitor the face features effectively and give out the information of driver's face orientation according to corresponding regulations.
