Abstract

In order to establish a more accurate calibration of Ultra-high Frequency (UHF) partial discharge (PD) detecting technology, this paper analyzed the characteristics of discharge source by using a UHF PD simulator designed in laboratory. This simulator can generate a stable UHF signal that contains PD power frequency phase characteristics and its frequency can be adjust from 0.3GHz to 1.4GHz. Omnidirectional antenna was used to transmit ultra-high frequency signals generated by the simulator, which can be placed in transformer tank. This paper analyzed the influence of measurement distance including angle of UHF signal, the performance of measurement sensor and so on. The influence of sensor's bandwidth, gains and standing-wave ratio on detection sensitivity UHF signal in different frequency has been deeply studied. In the real process of PD signal, the propagation path also affect the calibration result. Therefore, to take full account of these factors into the calibration of PD, it is possible to get the transfer function of UHF signal accurately, which will improve the PD calibration.
