Abstract

A new series of chromophores, styryl-quinolinium derivatives have been designed and synthesized. The linear absorption properties have been experimentally measured and the two-photon properties theoretically investigated on the basis of a quantum-chemical INDO/CI and the sum-over-states (SOS) method. The theoretical prediction for this group of derivatives shows that they have large two-photon absorption (TPA) cross sections as well as appropriate absorption wavelengths. The results show that the chromophores would be a kind of promising candidates of two-photon devices.
