Abstract

In the case of V ribbed belt drives, a force between the tension member of the belt and the pulley is transmitted through the ribs and the adhesive rubber which connects the ribs and the tension member. From this point of view, a mechanism of force transmittion between the belt tension member and the pulley was theoretically investigated in this paper. Namely, a theoretical equation which governs the relation between the force acting on the tension member and the rib deformation for the infinitesimal belt element, was given. This theory was examined by the experiment. Both theory and the experiment show that the rib deformation characteristics are dependent on the force history.
