Abstract

Objective To know the current nursing students' value tendency in career choice and career development. Method Work values inventory was filled out by the students from two universities and the results were analyzed by SPSS 11.5 statistics software. Results The 15 work value scales were evaluated by the students and the grade from most important to less important were way of life, achievement, associates, altruism, prestige, independence, esthetics, creativity, economic return, intellectual stimulation, supervisory relations, surroundings, variety, management, security. The mean score of the 15 work value scales was from 14.29 to 17.07. The mean score of the 60 items of the 15 work value scales was from 2.76 to 4.39. Conclusions There are many factors that the nursing students place emphasis on when facing career choice and career development so it becomes harder for them to find a satisfactory job. Nursing students should be instructed to harmonize the gap between dreams and reality, know and evaluate themselves objectively so as to obtain employment.
