Abstract
Electronic absorption spectra of Co(III), Mn(III) and Tl(III) ions in anhydrous acetic acid solutions in the presence of 1 M potassium acetate as the background electrolyte have been reported and discussed. The time changes of these spectra were used to determine the pseudo-first-order rates of decomposition of the ions studied. Moreover, it was established that the rate of spontaneous reduction of Mn(III) ions is affected strongly by the concentration of potassium acetate. Based on these results, it was stated that the reaction occurs with acetate anions coordinated with the metal ions.
