Abstract
The Ni-W-P-PTFE composite coating with various contents of PTFE was successfully prepared on the surface of mild steel. Properties of microstructure, composition and anti-fouling performance of Ni-W-P-PTFE composite coating were further investigated. Results prove that the surface morphology of Ni-W-P-PTFE composite coating becomes rougher due to the aggregation function of PTFE particles. Deposition rate and microhardness of coating vary inversely with PTFE content due to polymerization and softness performances. Additionally, contact angle testing reveals that the surface free energy of coating decreases with more PTFE content deposited. All Ni-W-P-PTFE composite coatings have better anti-fouling performance compared with the uncoated mild steel surface. The deposition rate of calcium carbonate fouling can be inhibited by more PTFE particles. It was found that the best anti-fouling performance has been obtained by Ni-W-P-PTFE coating containing 12 ml l−1 PTFE in co-deposition process.
