Abstract

In order to evaluate the crack arrestability of line pipes to the propagating shear fracture, the partial-gas burst test was carried out on many line pipes of varied notch ductility, sizes and test conditions. A method to estimate the fracture energy of test pipes was established and the required notch ductility for line pipes against the propagating shear fracture of actual pipelines was introduced.
