Abstract
The study was conducted to purify the zinc sulfate solution from impurities. A solution of zinc sulfate from a zinc-containing concentrate collected from the ore of the Khandiza deposit was taken for the study. Autoclave leaching of zinc concentrate with 30% sulfuric acid in an autoclave was done by introducing zinc dust after the stage of treatment of zinc concentrate with sulfuric acid. The possibility of reducing the copper content in the liquid phase from 0.26% to 0.01% at a ratio of Me:Zinc dust=1:(1.05-1.10) is presented here. Ammonization of a solution purified from copper makes it possible to reduce the copper content from 0.53% to 0.01% at a ratio of Fe:NH3=1:1.1. Empirical equations are derived for the effect of temperature, Zn:H2SO4 ratio, and process duration on the density and viscosity of pulps during the conversion of zinc concentrate with sulfuric acid.
