Study on the Optimal Field Width in Helical Tomotherapy With the New Dynamic Jaws Technology for Small Metastatic Brain Tumors

Abstract

In our institution, stereotactic radiation therapy for metastatic brain tumors has been performed using helical tomotherapy. For the treatment, field widths of 1.0, 2.5 and 5.0 cm are available; owing to its dose distribution, 1-cm field width has been usually selected for treatment of small metastatic brain tumors. However, 1-cm filed treatment has a drawback of requiring relatively long treatment time. Recently, a new dynamic jaws technology has been introduced and has become available for actual treatment.
