Abstract

In this paper, Ni60 coatings were prepared on pure iron by electromagnetic compound field assisted laser cladding. The effect of the electromagnetic field on the microstructure of the coating was studied by changing the intensity of the electromagnetic field, the microstructure and phase composition of the coating were investigated by optical microscope (OM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results showed that after applying the electromagnetic field, there were the flower-shaped structures and acicular constituents in the coating, and the grains at the top and middle of the coating were refined slightly. The number of flower-shaped structures and acicular constituents was the largest when the parameter of electromagnetic field was 1500A+0.2T, and a large area of fine grained region was found in the coating. In addition, the electromagnetic compound field could stir the molten pool and effectively reduce the porosity. The application of electromagnetic compound field did not change the phase composition of the coating, and the phase compositions of the coatings were still γ-Ni, CrB, Cr23C6 and Ni2B.
