Abstract

Objective To understand the nursing cost and the effects of the cost on the family satisfaction and living standard of the severely disabled people in Wuhan. Methods The convenience sampling method was adopted to select 100 families(which had people hold the second generation The People′s Republic of China Disabled Card ) in Wuhan, and life satisfaction index A scale and self compiled disability nursing cost questionnaire were used to investigate an adult over 18 years old in selected family, and we analyzed the cost of home care. Results The total cost of care for severely disabled persons was 1 984 yuan per person per month; the satisfaction index for the disabled family was (8.57±2.30), whose family Engel coefficient was 62.24%, higher than the national those score (urban and rural) 48.4% in 2013; the higher proportion of the total cost for nursing care, the lower degree of satisfaction index. Conclusions The government and relevant departments should improve the relevant security system, increase social assistance and support efforts to reduce the economic burden of the family, at the same time pay attention to the mental health of persons with severe disability and improve those family satisfaction.
