Abstract
The interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) is usually applied to the traction motor in the hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and the electric vehicle (EV) due to its high-power density and wide speed range. In this paper, the IPMSM with concentrated winding for a 110cc electric motorcycle is introduced. In order to make the model operate correctly at high speed, optimization has to be performed while the output characteristics are preserved and satisfies the voltage limit. A design process which increases current and decreases number of turns while the ampere-turn is being preserved was performed. The voltage limit is decided by the voltage of the battery. On the other hand, current limit can be regarded as the maximum allowed current of switching devices of inverter or withstand current of each devices. The allowed current in this paper is 228A(peak), so design which increases the current is possible. If the number of turns is reduced and the current is increased, amount of no-load counter electromotive force and inductance alters but the torque, current phase angle, cogging torque, ratio of counter electromotive force harmonics, ohmic loss, iron loss, and structure do not change.
