Abstract

Large capacity synchronous condenser has excellent reactive power and voltage regulation capability. And it is one of the most important measures to improve the commutation failure characteristics of LCC-HVDC by deploying large capacity synchronous condensers in HVDC inverter stations. In this paper, the principle of configuring synchronous in condenser of reducing the risk of commutation failure, is discussed preliminarily, based on short-circuit current calculation of synchronous condenser. On this basis, combined with the actual power system simulation results, some factors which affect the effect of the synchronous condenser, such as fault location and multi-HVDC interaction, are studied.
