Abstract

This paper reported that ferrocene was utilized as the additive for extinguishants to suppress combustion reaction, which was known as composite superfine dry power containing Ferrocene (CSFP-Fc). Gaussian was applied to simulate the chemical inhibition mechanism of CSFP-Fc. It verified that the addition of ferrocene can promote the fire extinguishing performance of superfine ABC dry powder (SDP) to some extent. By studying the fire extinguishing effect on liquid hydrocarbon flames in the cup burner, it was determined that the optimal mass fraction of ferrocene added was 4 wt%. Then the physical and chemical properties of CSFP-Fc were characterized by laser particle size analysis, scanning electron microscope (SEM), thermal gravity analyzer (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results indicated that CSFP-Fc had better fire extinguishing efficiency than ordinary ABC dry powder (ODP). Furthermore, the article confirmed that a more practical extinguishant was proposed and it can provide guidance for the application and development of extinguishants.
