Abstract

To reveal the failure mechanism of epoxy coating under the condition of high concentration of ion content, taking DGEBA epoxy coating as the research object, this paper manually coated X80 steel samples with coating, and the five-point test method determined the coating thickness as at 25±5 μm. The electrochemical impedance change characteristics of the coating sample in 10 wt.% NaCl solution with the immersion time were studied by electrochemical test, and the failure evolution mechanism of the DGEBA epoxy coating was established. The results show that the failure process of DGEBA epoxy coating can be divided into three stages: ion diffusion process, formation of electric double layer at the coating/metal interface, and electrochemical corrosion at the coating/metal interface.
