Abstract

With the construction and operation of ultra-high-voltage transmission grids, the mixed AC/DC backbone transmission system has been formed in China. Interactions between AC/DC systems on the system stability are increasingly prominent. From current research, it shows that applications of the multi-terminal flexible DC system in the receiving-end power grid is helpful to improve receiving capacities and reduce security risks induced by multi LCC-based DC systems centralized-infeeding. However, evaluation strategies for the security and stability of receiving power grids considering the integration of multi-terminal flexible DC systems are far from perfect. In this paper, operation characteristics of multi-terminal flexible DC transmission systems integrated in the receiving power grid are studied, and the corresponding evaluation index strategy and improvement measures for the safety and stability are proposed. During the “14th Five-Year” planning period, the proposed evaluation strategy and improvement measures are applied and verified in Jiangsu transmission system.
