Abstract
In this work, mechanical properties, frictional wear and seizure of particulate filled aluminium matrix composites have been investigated. Three different particulate fillers taken for this study are SiC, Al2O3 and cenosphere. Percentage reinforcement is also varied from 8 to 16 wt.%. Other factors such as normal load and sliding speed are also considered. It is observed that SiC reinforced composites show better wear resistance and seizure resistance than Al2O3 and cenosphere reinforced composites. The results also showed that cenosphere particulate composites exhibit better seizure resistance than Al2O3 reinforced composites. Regression and artificial neural network are used to develop a model to predict the wear loss.
