Abstract

In recent years, ultrasonic cleaning devices in cosmetology are increasingly demanded and improved with the advance of human life quality. This study aims at the efficiency of a commercial ultrasonic cleaning apparatus HS-3003 of Hwang Sun Enterprise Co. Ltd, Taiwan. The ultrasonic cleaning apparatus has a hand-held stainless sliced steel vibrator. For this study purpose, a water tank was set up for the use of the steel vibrator which could vibrate with three amplitudes that represent three ultrasonic weak, moderate and strong operation modes. Pig and sheep skins were chosen as cleaned skins fouled by eye shadow cosmetics. The steel vibrator is moved back and forth on the pig or sheep skin for 6 times in a minute. After that, the cleaned pig or sheep skin after drying is photographed by a digital camera with assigned magnification. A commercial software package of Photoimpact 10 is used to analyze those photographs for understanding the efficiency of ultrasonic cleaning device. It is found that the steel vibrator which is lightly contacted on the cleaned pig or sheep skins will result in a better cleaning effect. In general, the ultrasonic cleaning efficiency under the use of some detergents, excepted for the weak mode, can reach more than 79%, which is obviously superior to that for the only pure water case. Finally the case of cleaning human hand skin contaminant is studied. It is found that ultrasonic cleaning with the detergent of Perfect Whip has better efficiency.
