Abstract

Objective To investigate the effects of treat-to-target on the function of core muscle groups in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients. Methods The clinical data of 64 AS patients were collected. Clinical symptoms, ASDAS (ankylosing spondylitis disease activity score), and simultaneous detection of DAVID spine biomechanics training system, simple core muscle fitness test: Eight-grade abdominal bridge, PLANK exercise (flat support), Abdominal static muscle endurance test, Back static muscle endurance test were compared using paired t-test analysis and spearman correlation analysis. Results ① For AS patients reaching the target, there were differences in the backward extension (t=4.456, P<0.01), forward flexion (t=5.679, P<0.01), right rotation (t=7.525, P<0.01), left rotation (t=8.173, P<0.01), right flexion (t=10.08, P<0.01), left flexion (t=8.233, P<0.01) compared to those before they achieved the treatment target. The muscle strength, the forward bending force[(91±45) Nm and (97±40) Nm] (t=6.247, P<0.01) was also different when compared to those before reaching the target. ② There were differences in abdominal static muscle endurance (t=2.553, P=0.013) after reaching the target compared to patients before they reached the treatment target. ③ ΔASDAS was positively correlated with Δanteflexion (r=0.481, P<0.01), Δright flexion (r=0.450, P<0.01), Δleft flexion (r=0.430, P<0.01), Δright rotation (r=0.318, P=0.013), Δleft rotation (r=0.318, P=0.013), Δleft rotation (r=0.318, P=0.013), Δabdominal muscle endurance (r=0.335, P=0.011). Conclusion Achieving target is helpful for AS patients to improve the activity of spinal core muscle group and abdominal muscle strength, but it has no significant effect on the improvement of muscle strength of extension and rotation, lateral bending and muscle balance. Key words: Spondylitis, ankylosing; Exercise theraphy; Muscle strength
