Abstract

Texture analysis of pilgered zirconium alloy tube was carried by neutron diffraction to study the effect of texture on the corrosion behaviour of the tube. The specimens were selected with similar grain sizes and shapes, but different crystallographic textures. Corrosion potential and rate of the zirconium alloy in deaerated 40% HCl+500 ppm FeCl 3 at 20 °C are about −12 mV SCE and 5.0×10 −4 A cm −2, respectively. Texture analysis by neutron diffraction showed that the change of the corrosion resistance was mainly related to crystallographic texture of the pilgered zirconium alloy.
