Abstract

Abstract Tetrastigma hemsleyanum is an endangered edible plant with important medicinal value. The intersimple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers was used to analyze genetic differentiation in thirty-two natural accessions of T. hemsleyanum . Eight phenolic contents of the leaves in these accessions were determined using ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC). T. hemsleyanum accessions exhibited high level of genetic diversity and considerable UHPLC fingerprint variation. The unweighted pair-group method with arithmetic mean cluster analyses of ISSR and UHPLC data showed nearly identical results. Correlation analysis revealed the close relationships between genetic structure and UHPLC fingerprint patterns (R 2 =0.9928 for genetic distance and UHPLC fingerprint). Meanwhile, the antioxidant activity of T. hemsleyanum leaves connected with the phenolic fingerprint type. Results suggested that the analyzed phenolics are likely the antioxidant ingredients, and the chemical components may closely related to genotype.
