Abstract

A sloshing wave was excited by an instant impulse after a collision. The parameters of the sloshing wave were measured with laser diffraction. The diffraction patterns of the sloshing wave were obtained experimentally at different depths with the same excitation conditions. The fringe spaces and intensities of the diffraction patterns were induced in accordance with the wavelength and amplitude of the liquid sloshing wave. The amplitude of sloshing waves was linearly related to the depth of the wave. The device is simple, nondestructive, and allows real-time measurements.
