Abstract

Objective To study the incidence of Helicobacter pylori(Hp)infection in patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura(ITP)and to evaluate the effects of Hp eradication in the treatment of ITP.Methods The incidence of Hp infection was detected by 14C urea breath test(14C-UBT)in patients with ITP,40 of 68 patients were Hp positive.The patients who had positive result were randomly divided into two group:the treatment group(n=20)and the control group(n=20).The treatment group were treated with Hp eradication combined with glucocorticoids,but the control group was treated with glucocorticoids only.The curative effect and recurrence were observed,and followed up after stopping the therapy for 6 months.Results The prevalecde of Hp infection in ITP patients in Shantou area was 58.82%.the total effective rate in the treatment group and the control group was 90%and 80%respectively.A fellow-up for 6 months showed that 2 cases recurrence in treatment group(10%)and 10 cases in control group(50%).Conclusion The study had shown the Hp eradication treatment could improve the therapy effect obviously,decline the relapse rate obviously and reduce hospitalization expense and length of stay in hospital.
