Abstract

For geotechnical engineering application, with the urgent needs of the subsurface development, 3D geological modeling is one of the main means of visualization and calculation of subsurface, and the spatial interpolation method for geological surface is the main methods for the related research of 3D geomodelling. In this paper, different methods of spatial interpolation are summarized and studied, including kriging interpolation, inverse distance weighted interpolation (IDW), spline function interpolation, and discrete smooth interpolation (DSI) method. In this paper, the principles and theories of these interpolation methods are discussed, the applicability and advantages of different methods are compared, and the improved method of 3D subsurface model building is summarized, the kriging method and the DSI method are more suitable for spatial interpolation in the geomodelling field with higher precision, but the calculations are more time-consuming than the IDW and spline function interpolation methods.
