Abstract

The advanced orthotropic piezoelectric composite material (OPCM) sensor can be used in structural health monitoring with a highly sensitive performance. In order to reduce the interference of lateral reflected waves and obtain the reflected wave signal with wide frequency bandwidth and high focusing energy, a new type of OPCM focusing transducer was studied based on the previous research of OPCM. Compared with the PZT transducer, the superiority and the acoustic field characteristics of the OPCM focusing transducer are studied by simulation, and the stress comparison results are verified by experiments. It is shown that the blind area of the focusing transducer in engineering structure detection is about 1.5 mm from the detection surface, which greatly increases the ease of obtaining reflected wave signals with high energy and high signal-to-noise ratio in engineering structure damage detection.
