Abstract

In order to study the deformation mechanism and stability of large span highway tunnel, based on the small clear-distance twin highway tunnel with eight lanes in GangGou, numerical simulation was used to compare and analyze the deformation of surrounding rock under three kinds of tunneling methods: beach cut method, CD method and double sides heading method. The results show that: When the tunnel is dredged by double sides heading method and CD method, the overall stability of the surrounding rock and the stability of the middle rock wall are obviously better than those of the beach cut method; Considering the project cost, construction schedule and technical conditions, grade IV surrounding rock tunnel is recommended to be constructed by CD method. Conclusion can provide theoretical basis for the design of small clear-distance twin highway tunnels with eight lanes and selection of construction methods.
