Abstract

The static voltage stability assessment (VSA) for a typical load center is discussed in this paper. Two indices are proposed for the static VSA of load centers. Moreover, the corresponding criteria are made for Beijing power system (BPS). A framework is developed in this paper to deal with the contingencies for the transmission interface and local generators which are critical to the static voltage stability of load centers. In this framework, determinate method is used to analyze the small quantity of N-1 or N-2 contingencies and probability-based is used to deal with the large quantity of overlapping contingencies. Furthermore, other factors which are of importance to the VSA for a load center, such as, the load increasing pattern, a number of MSCs (mechanically switched capacitors) and cables used and load characters, are also discussed in this paper.
