Abstract

The perforated plate sound absorber was proposed by professor Ma Dayou,a famous acoustics expert in China, in 1975, and a related theoretical model was established, which is called Ma's theory model. Perforated plate sound absorbers have been widely used in many fields such as buildings, ships, aircraft, mufflers and so on because of their advantages such as strong, light weight, corrosion resistance and environmental friendliness. It is regarded as the most attractive new generation of sound absorbing materials which can replace the traditional porous sound absorbing materials in the century. However, one significant disadvantages of traditional single layer perforated plate absorbers is that the sound absorption bandwidth is narrow, which is far from enough as a common sound absorption structure. Therefore, how to optimize and improve perforated plate absorber is a hot research topic at present. The sound absorption characteristics of perforated plate absorbers are determined by their structural parameters, such as perforation diameter, plate thickness, perforation rate and cavity depth.
