Abstract

Aggregate is most widely used in reinforced concrete construction. In this investigation, fly ash aggregates were used in concrete and its effect on durability of concrete was studied. The fly ash was collected from Mettur Thermal Power plant. Then the cement fly ash proportion of 10:90, 12.5:87.5, 15:85, 17.5:82.5, 20:80 and 22.5:77.5 were adopted to get fly ash aggregates. The Particle size distribution, Specific gravity and Water absorption tests on aggregates were conducted. M20 grade of concrete was considered. The fresh concrete tests like Slump test and Compacting factor test were conducted. For the plain concrete and fly ash aggregate concrete the cubes were cast. All the specimens were cured in a curing tank. The plain and fly ash aggregate concrete cube specimens were cast and tested at the age of 28days and 56days. Sorptivity and saturated water absorption tests were conducted on these plain and fly ash aggregate concrete specimens. The results were tabulated and compared by drawing graphs. Based on the results obtained, conclusions and suggestions were made.
