Abstract

This paper presents the results of laboratory investigation and numerical study on rock breakage by disc cutter under coupled static and dynamic loads. The test results suggested that the rock breakage is greatly improved under combined static and dynamic loading in the breaking depth, broken-volume and specific energy consumption compared with static loading and impact loading. The numerical results show that high frequencies are not beneficial to the development of middle crack. Compared with the static load, the coupled loads are beneficial to the development of micro shear cracks, while the effect of coupled loads on the development of micro tensile cracks is opposite to that on micro shear cracks. Compared with the areas of compacting rock core and damage area under static load, areas under coupled loads are expanding.
