Abstract

The rivers in northern China have less water and more sediment, and the amount of incoming sediment is mainly concentrated in the flood season. In order to reduce the sediment deposition in reservoirs, study on reservoir optimized operation needs to be carried out. Traditional reservoir operation usually adopts a single normal pool level and a single flood control level, which does not take into account changes of the reservoir storage capacity with time. Due to the large capacity of the reservoir in the early stage of operation, the lower normal pool level can also meet the water supply demand. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the normal pool level and the flood control level. Reservoir capacity decreases in the later stages of reservoir operation. Increasing the normal pool level and the flood control level can increase the storage capacity. This paper uses a mathematical model to simulate the remaining capacity of the reservoir under different control operating levels. The results show that scheme 4 has the best results.
