Abstract

The aim of the present study is to estimate the reinforcing effects of fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) grids embedded in polymer cement mortar (PCM) shotcrete (FRP-PCM method) on tunnel linings, under the seismic load. Direct shear test was conducted to investigate the mechanical properties of bonding surfaces between the PCM concrete and concrete specimens sandwiched by a FRP layer. Numerical modelling was performed to analyze the reinforcing effects of FRP-PCM method quantitively, taking into accounts the influences of cavity position and construction method of tunnels, which could provide valuable guidance for the reinforcing of underground structures.
