Abstract

The electric field treatment (EFT) was performed on the IN718 alloy and the precipitation behavior of δ phase in the alloy was investigated in the present study. Comparing with that of the IN718 alloy by aging treatment (AT), the content of Ni3Nb in the form of δ and γ” increases and the precipitation of δ at the grain boundaries occurs ahead of time in the alloy by EFT of 8 kV/cm at 1123 K. The precipitation behavior of the δ in the alloy is greatly suppressed by EFT, there is almost no precipitation of δ inside the grains in the alloy and the γ” grows with the increasing of EFT time. The decrease of coherent strain energy at the interface of γ” and gamma matrix is the main reason for the suppression of the phase transformation of γ” to δ in the alloy by EFT.
