Abstract

Based on the red clay of Wuhan reinforced by Ionic Soil Stabilizer, the red clay was treated by different matches of ISS and water at first, then was tested in the Atterberg limits test and unconfined compressive strength test. The results show that the plastic index decreases, and unconfined compressive strength increases after mixing the ISS into the red clay. In addition, strength of ISS-reinforced soil increases with age, and strength respectively increases with an decrease in plastic index. Finally, because application of the plasticity index has its own advantages, such as efficient, economic and applicable, a minimum plasticity index is usually recommended to determine the optimal ratio of ISS-reinforced soil.
