Abstract

UHVDC converter station plays very important role in the UHVDC power system, so its safe operation is also very crucial. The UHVDC converter station should take proper lightning protection measures to avoid lightning damage accidents. At present, to check whether the lighting arrangement scheme of the ±800kV UHV converter station is reasonable, the intruding wave overvoltage will be simulated. For Baihetan(Butuo) ± 800kV UHV converter station, some of the AC side incoming lines are installed with the shunt reactors and there is a long distance (more than 70m) between the shunt reactors and bushing (TG) of the AC side incoming section, while there was no lighting inrudign wave overvoltage research on such condition. In this paper, based on Baihetan ±800kV UHV converter station, the research on optimal layout of lightning arresters in AC side incoming section with shunt reactors were carried out by simulating intruding wave overvoltage using ATP-EMTP. Firstly, under preliminary arrester layout scheme the lightning intruding wave overvoltage were simulated. Secondly, under improved arrester layout scheme the lightning intruding wave overvoltage when the shunt reactor under operation were simulated. Thirdly, under improved arrester layout scheme the lightning intruding wave overvoltage when the shunt reactor out of operation were simulated. By study this paper gave the optimal layout of lightning arresters, and the research results have provided data support Baihetan ±800kV UHV converter station.
